One of the things I miss about college is having the people in your class critique your work. Students and the professors. Nowadays I just make things, put it on online and get "favs" or "likes." Maybe a comment here or there but nothing that will tell me what someone likes or doesn't like about my work.

What about friends, don't you show your work to friends on skype or something?  As in directly, not just via some post on facebook/DA, and ask for critique and other way around sometimes?

I'm the kind of person who tends to leave critique, appreciation of certain aspects/details or the whole, as well as good suggestions sometimes.
Sometimes even actual advice if I feel I can offer one of real value.

But reactions tend to be something in the lines of either
a) simple appreciation: "hey, thank you fizzy c:"
b) inability to see or want the potential of their work: "Thing is that I haven't intented it to be shared [...]or something, I want it to be just here."
c) inability to comprehend/understand the value of what I say

So yeah, if you wonder why people don't: the time investment & too little positive reinforcement if you do it. Even an altruist like me gets discouraged after a while and minimizes doing it.

No biggie tho, things like these should be two way streets optimally anyway, most of us are programmed to receive fulfillment out of human interaction so simply find friends who don't have mental problems like all consuming jealousy towards your work and share with them while letting them share whatever is on their mind ^_^

As for the site, add a well thought out disclaimer (right before your link to some other websites gallery of yours or whatever you want last) to your descriptions, it should encourage the user to "really say what you like, dislike and any thoughts you might have!" + "I read everything and definitely reply something something". See what that gives.

P.S.: Gates is a nice band, thanks for having me discover it trough that post :)
